New Water Sources and Nature Based Solutions Conference, hosted here by Lisbon Public Law, and took place on 5 and 6 June (https://lisbonpubliclaw.pt/en/waterwastelisbon/programa-water-waste-lisbon/). The conference brought together over 100 delegates from around 20 countries, coming from the worlds of public administration, academia, regulation, utilities, consultancy, or international organizations. It discussed New and Alternative Water Sources (AWS), such as desalination, wastewater reuse, and rainwater harvesting, are critical to addressing water scarcity and enhancing supply resilience. In parallel, nature-based solutions (NBS) were also analyzed, as wetlands, terracing; infiltration channels, reforestation, and other green infrastructure, offer sustainable approaches to water management that enhance biodiversity, and ecosystem services, improving water quality and quantity, and supporting climate adaptation. Integrating these solutions requires cross-sector collaboration and innovative policy frameworks to optimize their implementation and maximize benefits. The RPG project manager, PhD Pedro Simões, and Senior Analyst MSc. Inês Machete gave presentations at the conference.

- The RPG team held a workshop on November 24 and 25 on the wastewater sanitation PPP for the State of Goiás.
- Prof. Rui Marques had the honor of delivering the keynote lecture at the Foro Iberoamericano de Regulación (FIAR) 2025 of ADERASA, held in Asunción on November 12–13, 2025. The presentation, “Panorama de la Regulación de Agua Potable y Saneamiento en Iberoamérica”, looked at where we stand today and where regulation needs to go next. Prof. Rui Marques also took part in a session entitled “Garantizar lo Esencial: Estándares y Mecanismos Regulatorios para la Calidad y Sostenibilidad del Servicio de Agua”, a presentation discussing the enabling conditions required to guarantee essential water services, both in terms of quality and long-term sustainability.
